this morning. texas governor rick perry is hoping america's self-proclaimed toughest sheriff can help his chances. sheriff joe arpaio is expected to join perry on his bus tour across iowa today. arpaio has been a staunch supporter of arizona's tough immigration policy. meanwhile, romney is trying to drum up last minute support with a new campaign ad. and perry, gingrich, and michele bachmann are starting bus tours in iowa. >>> don't expect to see presidential hopeful newt gingrich as a write-in candidate for virginia's republican primary. the former speaker of the house told news 4 he intended on launching a write-in campaign after failing to get enough signatures to make the ballot. virginia does not allow write-ins during primaries, but gingrich encouraged the state to change the law. virginia's state legislature doesn't meet until january 11th, and absentee ballots must be mailed by january 21st. that leaves little time for lawmakers to change the code. >>> president obama is getting a jump start on fund-raising much the democratic official says the president's campaign is hoping to re

is pounding the southern plains. interstate 40 was shut down from amarillo, texas, all the way to albuquerque, new mexico's border,eaving people to take refuge in hotels and shelters. things are even worse for nearly 100 people who needed to be rescued in the texas panhandle after getting stranded in blizzard-like conditions. several inches of snow have blanketed states from new mexico up to kansas. >>> it wasn't the weather but a transformer failure to blame for not one, but two power outages in san francisco. the outages delayed the monday night football game. the first outage delayed the start of the game between the steelers and 49ers. by about 30 minutes. there was also a second outage in the second quarter of the game, which made the stadium go dark again and suspended play for several minutes then. the 49ers went on to win the game 20-3. it looks like the steelers could have used the light. >>> this morning a man is dead after he was shot and killed at a busy mall in maryland. it happened last night just outside the nordstrom store at towson town center. no wrun could enter or leave th
virginia filed by texas governor rick perry. the suit was filed tuesday. perry had tried to file an emergency motion to stop the state from printing ballots without his name on it, but a judge denied it. perry argues that virginia's ballot requirements are, quote, overly burdensome and unconstitutional. and that they prevented him from collecting the necessary signatures. >>> and an attorney and tea party activist has filed a lawsuit on behalf of newt gingrich in virginia. jonathan mosley filed the suit yesterday, contending that gingrich met the requirement for 10,000 signatures and that some of them were improperly excluded. mosley says he's acting independently and that gingrich has not yet joined the suit. the gingrich campaign says they believe a campaign worker turned in false signatures, forcing them to be kept off the ballot. >>> 6:05 now. president obama took time out of his christmas vacation in hawaii to pay his respects to the victims of pearl harbor. yesterday the president and first lady visits the "uss arizona" memorial at pear harbor. mr. obama laid a wreath at th
